My new blog
Just received my new DPNS from the US for bead knitting and I must confess, it is not a piece of cake! After completing my first beadwork on canvas with great fun and as I consider to be a big success, I have started knitting my very first beaded training piece. Despite that I am a bit suffering working real hard to get used to the technique, I am very happy with the outcome :) I am sure with a few more rows, I shall be able to knit faster. With the little piece ( 2.5 cm / 1" ) below, I am using 11/0 size beads and the needle size is 1.25 mm ( US 4/0 ) with number 8 cotton perle ...
My very first tapestry with beads. The most difficult part of this project which is easier than cross stitch, was to gather all the various shades of blues and greens! The pattern is the courtesy of Lindstedt Collection :)
Below is how the beads stand on back & forth crochet.
Almost alike crochet above but with knitting needles. They will probably slant the same direction if knit with DPNS in the round.
I like the way the beads stand with this technique below ( almost 2 cm - 0.8" square ) which is plain sewing needles and done in hand. However, do not like to see the thread. And not the easiest technique.
And the perfection! Below is how the beads stand when crocheted in the round. Knitting with beads end up with a softer texture whereas crocheting with beads are stiffer.
Below is a coin purse made with the same technique above. Look how wonderfully and harmoniously stand the beads! And the handle ... Probably is the same technique as the snakes (I have not yet looked into that) by the Turkish Prisoners of War, WWI. This one was made again by a prisoner but a contemporary one! The prisoners here are referred to as "convicts of fate".
And my yummy beads! Waiting to be abused and seduced :) Or is it the other way round?
One last step is to try weaving the beads with the loom. I've got the loom and shall be giving it a try very soon :)
